Key Ingredient Needed for Death Star Laser Construction Found!

Seriously. No joke. The Holonet BBC is reporting that a key ingredient needed to complete the construction of gamma-ray annihilation lasers--- called Di-positronium, a new form of matter has been created.

The article quotes:

"The difference in the power available from a gamma-ray laser compared to a normal laser is the same as the difference between a nuclear explosion and a chemical explosion," said Dr David Cassidy of the University of California, Riverside, and one of the authors of the paper.

"It would have an incredibly high power density."

As a result, there is a huge interest in the technology from the military as well as energy researchers who believe the lasers could be used to kick-start nuclear fusion in a reactor.
"We've known about this molecule; we're not surprised that it exists but it's taken us more than 50 years to create it in the lab," said Dr Cassidy.

Was the Emperor most displeased with their excruciatingly slow progress? Is it just me, or is the Emperor whispering through the Force, "Soon the Rebellion will be crushed and young Skywalker will be one of us..?"

Kidding aside, the BBC article added that there are real world applications for this and one of them could be its use as a kick-start for nuclear fusion, a.ka. clean renewable energy source for the rest of us. note, the key phrase used was "could be". It would be nice, if it did.
