hope

There is something to smile about this bright Monday morning! Not everything going on in the country is downhill. Coming to work I was listening to the morning news on the radio. They were talking about government corporations that are loosing money. They were interviewing the Budget Secretary and she said in a off hand comment, “"government shouldn't be in business"”.

Exactly.

Nice to know these guys are up to their game, no matter how huge the problem is, they're knowledgeable. Now, if only those politicians would leave running government to these smart career officials, we wouldn't be in such dire circumstance.

Then she mentioned that some corporations are really setup to loose money. Like the National Food Authority that subsidizes rice prices. Whoa there.

Hello?! Planet Earth to Philippine Government! We've been doing this for 20 years now... Obviously that's not the way to go. New tactics people! Wouldn't it be better to take care of the rice production from day one until delivery to the market place instead of subsidizing it, let the government start it... and as it is picking up business, sell it... that is if no one's willing to start such an endeavor. But that's a whole lot of story and require huge capital to do. Life no? I digress.

The Budget Secretary also pointed out that the Light Rail and the Metro Rail systems are being subsidized by the government and that indeed both are losing businesses but the alternative she said was that, we wouldn't have a mass transit system. People got to look into that more. maybe come up with a way to make it profitable.

I guess government is moving forward with some things--- slow and such as it is. It is nice to know that things aren't as bleak as it may seem most of the time.

Now if only we could all get these politicians to become statesmen... but that would mean they'd have to be dead... for at least 15 years...

a guy can dream, can't he?
